Please note that the Arsenale area is partially restricted. Access to ISMAR is straightforward via several vaporeto (water bus) lines listed below.

3. HOW TO REACH VENICE & ISMAR (ARSENALE)

Most participants will arrive either at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) or Venice Santa Lucia Railway Station. Below are the most convenient options for reaching ISMAR.

From Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)

OPTION 1 — Alilaguna Blue Line (Direct Water Bus — Recommended)

This is the simplest way to reach the Arsenale area.

Follow airport signs for “Water Transport / Alilaguna”.

Purchase a Blu Line ticket at the dock or online.

Board the Blue Line to Bacini .

Travel time: ~70 minutes

Cost: €15–€17 one-way

From the Bacini stop, ISMAR is a 2 minute walk.


OPTION 2 — Bus or Taxi to Venice + Vaporeto (waterbus)

Step 1: Airport → Piazzale Roma

Taxi: ~20 minutes, approx. €40

ATVO or ACTV n.5 bus: ~20–25 minutes, €10–€12

Step 2: Piazzale Roma D → Bacini

Take vaporeto Line 5.2 toward Bacini .

Vaporeto departs at minutes 06, 26 and 46 of each hour from Piazzale Roma D

Travel time: 35–40 minutes

Cost: €9.50 (single ticket)

24/48/72-hour passes are also available.

From Venezia Santa Lucia Railway Station (Ferrovia D) to Bacini, you can take the same line at minutes 10, 30 and 50 of each hour.

Please Note that moving around Venice can at times be challenging as Google maps does not always function reliably. For a smoother experience when using the waterbus (vaporeto) we recommend downloading the “CheBateo?” app available for both Apple and Android devices.

4. ESTIMATED TRAVEL COSTS

These ranges are provided to help participants plan their trip. Prices vary depending on booking time, airline, and season.

5. ACCOMMODATION (SELF-BOOKED)

Participants are invited to select accommodation that best suits their needs and budget.

Venice offers a wide range of options, from affordable guesthouses to small boutique hotels.

Typical nightly rates

2-star hotels: €90–€140

3-star hotels: €130–€220

Guesthouses/B&Bs: €90–€180

Apartments: €120–€250 per night

We recommend booking early, as March can be a busy period in Venice.

6. LOCAL TRANSPORT COSTS

Vaporeto single ticket: €9.50

  • 24-hour pass: €25
  • 48-hour pass: €35
  • 72-hour pass: €45
  • Weekly pass: €65

A multi-day pass is often the most convenient option for atendees staying outside Castello.

7. MEALS INCLUDED

For all partcipants, the Symposium will provide:

  • Morning and afternoon coffee breaks (24–27 March)
  • Lunches (24–27 March)

Not included: Breakfast, Dinners, (unless otherwise indicated in the final program)

8. ADDITIONAL PRACTICAL NOTES

Electricity: Standard EU plugs (Type C / Type F)

Weather: March temperatures typically range from 10–16°C; rain is possible

Dress code: Business casual

Wi-Fi: Will be available at ISMAR

Venice involves walking and bridges — comfortable shoes are recommended
